Escape

branding, illustration, layout design, photography, typography

Escape is a magazine concept that I constructed focused on travel. I created all aspects of this magazine except for the copy, including the illustrations and photography.

My main goal with the magazine was to make it feel personal, so I decided on a scrapbook theme. Beyond the obvious photography aspect of scrapbooks, the next common thing found in them is stickers. I used Adobe Illustrator to create spot illustrations that resembled travel themed stickers in the color scheme and added them to various areas throughout the layout. This gave the article a unique touch that also helped better convey the theme. I designed the cover using Adobe Illustrator and modeled it after an airplane window, rather than a specific location. I felt like this was best because the article itself mentions many locations, so I didn't want to limit the cover by choosing one exclusively. I also admire the illustrative cover designs of The New Yorker, so I took inspiration from that for the simple design.
