my process
Last Spring marked two years since the beginning of the Coronavirus Pandemic, so I wrote an article about how the pandemic first impacted Elon students, faculty and staff. I interviewed three students and two professors and asked them to reflect on the abrupt switch to remote learning.

Because of the school oriented subject matter of the article, I created a layout that replicated Elon University's magazine, The Magazine of Elon. The quarterly magazine shares information for alumni, parents, friends and family of Elon. To the left, you can see past versions of the magazine.
I chose two photos taken by Owen Covington that further demonstrate how drastically campus had changed due to the pandemic. The first photo shows two students wearing masks outside in the Fall after returning to campus. I believe this is a good photo to show because of how desolate the campus looks. A normal Fall day usually has plenty of students sitting in the grass and walking around. The other photo is of one of the art professors at Elon during the initial switch to remote learning. This fits the statements from the professors in the article, showing how committed the staff was to enhance student learning during the remote period.

When designing the cover for the magazine, I decided to take my own photo rather than using one provided by the University. I chose to take a photo of this lake on campus because the strong reflection enhances the name of the article.
For the other aspects such as the logo and typography, I adhered to Elon's brand style guides by using their set colors and typefaces.
